The United Arab Emirates has issued new laws banning non-citizens from wearing Emirati clothing and speaking in the Emirati dialect in the media.
The law is meant to preserve the national identity of the Emirati citizen, with the head of the UAE national media council stating on Twitter/X that "Presentation of the Emirati identity on media must only be done by Emiratis to present the real culture and national identity.
"The decision does not aim to limit the use of dialect or dress, but rather seeks to frame their appearance within standards that preserve their cultural status, especially in light of the growing role of influencers".
