The Dubai Public Prosecution are investigating a tragic incident regarding the death of an eight-year-old autistic girl, allegedly strangled to death by her own grandmother.
The father of the child, an Afghan imam at a mosque, had called his parents to Dubai on a visit visa. He suspected his mother of the shocking crime, admitting that they had argued previously about how to take care of the child. The family had planned to take the girl to India for treatment.
According to the police, the grandmother confessed that she was tired of the child’s illness and wanted to relieve her son and daughter-in-law from the excessive care. Shortly after helping her change, the grandmother then allegedly used the girl's dress to strangle her to death.
The child’s father was not in the house when the horrifying incident took place.
Upon returning, he noticed his daughter lying motionless and immediately called for an ambulance. However, paramedics confirmed the girl was deceased and noted the prominent marks of strangulation around her neck.
Investigations are still ongoing, as the case has shocked the community and raised concerns about the pressure families face when caring for children with special needs.
