Bahrain have suffered a heart-breaking 0-1 defeat against Indonesia this evening in yet another major blow to their qualifying bid for the Fifa World Cup 2026.
Ole Romenij was on target for the hosts in the 24th minute at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta. His goal was enough to separate the two sides in the high-intensity encounter.
The Bahrainis were dealt their fourth loss after eight games in qualification’s Group C table, where they remained fifth with six points and only two games to play in this stage.
The Bahrainis are officially out of the running for a direct berth in next year’s Fifa World Cup, with a spot in the top two now mathematically out of reach. They are left to compete for third or fourth place in the standings, which would earn them a spot in the fourth round of Asian qualifiers and keep their Fifa World Cup dreams alive.
