Jerald Kirkwood, the victim and owner of pet Pitbull ‘Oreo,’ revealed to police the shocking moment his dog jumped and unintentionally set off a firearm in his home in Tennessee, US.
Officers from the Memphis Police Department responded to an “accidental injury call" just before 4 am, on Monday.
Kirkwood was lying on his bed alongside his partner, when all of a sudden his dog shot him!
Police found a “spent shell casing on the front room floor.”
Authorities confirmed that the dog's paw got caught in the trigger guard, which caused the gun to discharge. As a result, the bullet grazed Kirkwood’s upper left thigh. His condition is stable.
His girlfriend said, "Oreo is a playful dog, and he likes to jump around and stuff like that, and it just went off.”
The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security stated that "safe and secure storage" of firearms is one of the most crucial responsibilities of gun owners. The agency urged all firearms and ammunition to be stored safely and securely to prevent access by children and unauthorised individuals, adding that “guns should be locked, with bullets stored separately.”
