TENNIS – Bahrain's youth tennis national team begin their campaign today in the Junior Davis Cup-Asia/Oceania Pre-Qualifying Event.
The competition is being played at Kuching, Malaysia, and there are 22 countries taking part.
The under-16 event is being held under the International Tennis Federation and Asian Tennis Federation banners. Matches will continue until Saturday later this week.
Bahrain’s players in the tournament include Ahmed Al Sayed, Redha Abdulnabi, and Abdulrahman Aldoseri. They travelled to the event with coach Karim Abdulredha.
The nationals’ first head-to-head of the competition is against Mongolia today in Group D of the preliminary round, which also includes Kyrgyzstan.
Group A features Kuwait, Cambodia, and Indonesia; Group B includes Singapore, Macau, and Saudi Arabia; Group C is composed of Pakistan, Turkmenistan, and Iraq; Group E features Sri Lanka, the Maldives, and Bhutan; Group F includes Guam, Pacific Oceania, and Bangladesh; and Group G has four teams, namely the Philippines, Vietnam, Lebanon, and Laos.
Meanwhile, the first BTF Ramadan women’s tournament has gotten underway at the BTF hard courts in Isa Town.
The first evening of action took place with MP Eman Shwoaiter in attendance. MP Showaiter is the event’s sponsor. Also on hand was BTF women’s committee head Jameela Al Nashaba.
Matches in the competition are being held every Friday and Saturday during the holy month. Cash prizes await the tournament’s winners.
