SPECIAL OLYMPICS – The pair of Mahmood Mohsen and Rawan Alsaad will be flying the Bahrain flag in this year’s Special Olympics World Winter Games in Turin, Italy.
Nearly 1,500 athletes from nearly 100 nations will be competing in eight sports in an international demonstration of inclusion, acceptance, and unity.
The sports include alpine skiing, cross country skiing, dance sport, figure skating, floorball, short track speed skating, snowboarding, and snowshoeing.
Both Mohsen and Alsaad will be competing in snowshoeing.
Mohsen will be contesting the 800m M02 division, which will be held today; while Alsaad will be racing in the 25m F04 competition and the 50m F05 division.
Mohsen and Alsaad joined the Bahrain delegation in the event’s official opening ceremony.
Speaking on the impact of sports in their lives, Mohsen and Alsaad shared an inspirational message of their experiences.
“I learned a lot from sports,” they said. “Through sports I was able to communicate with others and make beautiful friends, and I learned by joining the Bahraini Special Olympics, so I learned through the programme how to be a leader and maintain my health.”
