Jeddah: The second edition of the Islamic Arts Biennale, under the theme "And All that Is in Between," continues to offer an exceptional experience for art and culture enthusiasts at the Western Hajj Terminal of King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah, where Al Midhallah (the Canopy) section presents a creative window into the concept of gardens in Islamic civilization.
Outdoors, under the shaded, pointed canopies inspired by the shape of Arab tents, contemporary art harmonises with the legacy of Islamic architecture. Al Midhallah section includes about 20 modern works of art commissioned by the Diriyah Biennale Foundation, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
Inspired by the charbagh, a traditional Islamic garden layout in which four sections are divided by water channels, the artworks fall under four thematic quadrants.
Following a journey from individual introspection to the collective experience, these quadrants inspire reflection, learning, contemplation, and social encounters.
Al Midhallah's experience goes beyond an art exhibition. It highlights the overlap between art and nature, raising questions about contemporary environmental and social issues through an artistic approach that reflects the relationship between humans and their surrounding environment.
