Dubai Police successfully tracked down and recovered an Egyptian passenger's lost luggage that contained $7,000 (BD2,638) at Dubai International Airport.
The traveller had just arrived in Dubai on a connecting flight to China when he accidentally took the wrong luggage from the conveyor belt. Due to its similar size and colour, he mistook it for his own.
Realising his mistake and with only an hour left for his flight to China, the traveller immediately went to the airport police office.
The officer on duty who received the report immediately formed a team to track down the passenger's luggage.
The team then tracked the passenger's movements from the moment he entered the airport, reviewed surveillance cameras, and contacted Emirates Airlines, which he had flown with from Cairo Airport.
Their investigations revealed that the passenger's luggage was accidentally switched with that of a female Egyptian traveller who was still in the airport waiting for her relatives.
Police were able to reach her in time, explain the situation to her and switch the luggage.
The Dubai Police were credited with locating, tracking down, and giving the passenger his own bag back in just 30 minutes, ensuring that he could make his connecting flight to China.
