BASKETBALL – Bahrain basketball giants Al Ahli and Manama square off tonight in game two of their best-of-three play-off series for a berth in the semi-finals of the Gulf sub-zone in the 2024-25 Fiba West Asia Super League (WASL).
Ahli drew first blood last week following a 65-56 victory over their bitter rivals and will tonight look to land the knockout punch.
Manama, on the other hand, will be fighting to stay alive and extend the match-up to a decisive third game, which will be played on March 3, if needed.
This evening’s contest is scheduled for a 7.30pm tip-off at the Bahrain Basketball Association Arena in Um Al Hassam.
“It’s still a 50-50 possibility,” said Ahli veteran Ahmed Alderazi about their chances of winning tonight. “Because Manama is a top class team, a champion team that will recover and come back even stronger. But we will be ready as a team to face them in game two.”
The winners of this all-Bahraini play-off will move on to face Shabab Al Ahli of the UAE in the last four, also to be held best of three. Game one will be on March 10, followed by game two on March 17. A third game, if required, is slated for March 24.
The Ahli-Manama series is one of two play-off pairings being held to determine two available spots in the Gulf semi-finals. The other is between Kuwait SC of Kuwait and Al Ittihad of Saudi Arabia, with the winners advancing to face Al Qadsia, also of Kuwait, in the semis.
