HANDBALL – BAHRAIN’S Al Najma Club lifted the Bahrain-UAE Super Cup last night while Al Shabab narrowly missed out on taking the Bahrain-Saudi Arabia Super Cup.
Both games were played at Khalifa Sports City Arena in Isa Town.
Najma clinched their trophy after defeating Emirati outfit Sharjah 26-25 in their match. They did well to battle back from a slim 11-12 deficit at the half.
Shabab, on the other hand, lost to visiting Al Hada of Saudi 26-30 in their encounter. Hada also had a lead at the interval at 16-14, which they defended well over the concluding 30 minutes.
Following both games, Bahrain Handball Federation president Ali Issa was on hand to present the winners their respective trophies and medals.
Also held as part of yesterday’s programme at Khalifa Sports. City Arena, a retirement ceremony in honour of former Bahrain international and Barbar Club star Jaafar Abdulqader was held.
