TENNIS – PREPARATIONS continue for the 2025 Bahrain Ministry of Interior Tennis Challenger, set to take place February 9 to 15 at the Public Security Officers Club in Gudaibiya.
The event is a part of this year’s ATP Challenger Tour, which is the second-highest tier of professional tennis, administered by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and behind only the ATP Tour.
The kingdom’s event is to be held under the supervision of the Public Security Sports Association.
The tournament’s general supervisor Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa chaired the latest co-ordination meeting of the championship’s organising committee to discuss the ongoing preparations.
During the gathering, proposals and opinions of the various committee heads were discussed, along with the progress of work, particularly the readiness of the tournament’s courts and other necessary facilities to meet the requirements of the International Tennis Federation and to host the players.
Mikhail Kukushkin of Kazakhstan was crowned champion of last year’s event. Unseeded Kukushkin captured the coveted title after upsetting fifth seed and tournament favourite Richard Gasquet of France 7-6 (5), 6-4 in an exciting final.
Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, His Majesty King Hamad’s youth and sports affairs adviser Saleh bin Hindi, Tourism Minister Fatima Al Sairafi, and other high-ranking officials awarded the players after the title-decider.
