Sydney Thunder seamer Nathan McAndrew picked up his maiden T20 five-wicket haul on Wednesday to help his side prevail by 21 runs over Melbourne Stars in a weather-affected Big Bash League knockout final at Sydney Showground Stadium.
The Stars, who were bowled out for 114 inside 18 overs with Glenn Maxwell's 28 the only meaningful contribution, were never in the chase as a disciplined McAndrew returned 5-16 from four overs.
Earlier, Oliver Davies top-scored with 36 as Thunder battled to 135-7 from 19 overs, restricted primarily by England pacer Tom Curran and Pakistan spinner Usama Mir who each returned 2-26 on the slow wicket.
Friday night's semi-final derby now awaits Thunder, who won their only BBL trophy in 2016, and three-time champions Sydney Sixers, with the victors to face Hobart Hurricanes in next Monday's grand final.
