A 28-year-old woman won the lottery jackpot of more than $2 million after her family excluded her from an overseas group trip.
The woman revealed that she only learned about the trip after her sister posted pictures on her Instagram.
The woman comes from a family of five and shared her story on Reddit, proclaiming that "growing up, I was always the 'black sheep'…my siblings were the golden children, and while I wasn't outright ignored, I definitely got the short end of the stick."
Unfortunately, this continued into her adult life, especially after her family had recently planned a big trip overseas without including her.
"When I asked why I wasn't included, my mom said, 'We didn't think you'd want to come, and besides, we're tight on budget.' It hurt, but I let it go," she admitted.
However, a month later, she was in for a pleasant surprise!
"I bought a lottery ticket on a whim and ended up winning a life-changing amount—over $2 million. I decided to use the money wisely: paid off debts, invested, and set aside some for fun. I didn't tell my family right away because I didn't want them to treat me differently," she wrote on the forum.
She then went on to buy a new car, which her family grew suspicious of and began questioning her. When she revealed to them about her big win, they were "furious."
"My mom said it's selfish to keep all that money to myself when they're struggling (news to me, given the vacation). My sister hinted that I should pay for her student loans, and my brother outright asked me to buy him a house."
She continued, "I calmly explained that I wasn't obligated to share just because we're related, especially given how they've treated me in the past. I mentioned the trip as an example of how I've been excluded. My dad said, 'That was different; this is family money.'"
As a result, her family now calls her an "ungrateful brat" and accuses her of "ruining the family dynamic."
However, the woman says she won't share any of her money, and many Reddit users shared the same view.
One commenter wrote, "It's your money and your decision on how you want to spend it; it's obvious they never respected you to start with; they don't deserve anything from you."
Another user added, "It's a harsh reality that sometimes the people who should love and support us end up being the source of the most pain and hurt."
