Ahmed Adaweyah, one of the most prominent figures in Arabic music, died Sunday aged 79, after a prolonged battle with illness.
Adaweyah rose to fame in the 1970s with the rise of a unique genre of music called Shaabi, a blend of traditional Arabic folk tunes with modern contemporary beats and rhythms, with lyrics often addressing love and life.
He was admired by many for his raw talent and had a successful career spanning over 50 years. His last song was released in 2023.
