SWIMMING – Supreme Council for Youth and Sport (SCYS) first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority (GSA) chairman, and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa received professional Saudi swimmer Mariam Saleh Bin Laden following her achievement in completing the Khalid Bin Hamad Swimming Challenge, swimming from Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia, to Salman City in Bahrain in 11 hours, 25 minutes, and 47 seconds.
The meeting was attended by GSA CEO Dr Abdulrahman Askar and BOC secretary general Faris Al Kooheji.
Shaikh Khalid commended Mariam Bin Laden’s determination in overcoming the challenge, which he described as a remarkable sporting achievement.
He expressed pride in Mariam’s continued success in swimming and wished her further progress and accomplishments in her athletic career.
At the end of the meeting, Shaikh Khalid awarded Mariam Bin Laden the Khalid Bin Hamad Swimming Challenge Medal in recognition of her achievement.
On her part, Mariam Bin Laden expressed her appreciation to Shaikh Khalid for his ongoing support, which motivates her to continue her career and take on more challenges in swimming.
Mariam Bin Laden is the first Arab woman to swim across the Red Sea to Egypt in October 2022, the first swimmer to cross Dubai Creek and swim 24 km in 2017, and the first Gulf woman to swim across the English Channel, covering 21 miles in August 2016.
