TRIATHLON – BAHRAINI triathlete Omar Abdullah Hamza was crowned champion of the elite men’s race in the 2024 West Asia Triathlon Championship, held in Fujairah, UAE.
Hamza secured his title after completing the race in a total time of one hour and eight seconds. The event featured a 750-metre swim, followed by a 20km bike ride and concluding with a 5km run.
Hamza completed his swim in 10 minutes 25 seconds, and then came off the bike after finishing his ride in 31:46. He then ran the 5km in 16:54 to cross the finish line as the elite men’s champion.
Finishing behind him was Mohamad Alsabbagh of Syria in a time of 1:01:34, while Abdulla Al Ali of the UAE completed the top three in 1:03:45.
Hamza’s fellow-Bahraini Abdulrahman Alhassan narrowly missed out on the podium after finishing fourth in 1:05:51. Alhassan did the swim course in 11:44, then completed the ride in 33:29, before finishing with his run in 19:36.
The West Asian Triathlon Championship is one of the region’s premier triathlon races, attracting top athletes from various countries to compete in a dynamic atmosphere that promotes the development of talent and enhances the status of the sport.
