SAILING – Bahrain's Abdulrahim Abdulla claimed a golden double in the Gulf categories of the 22nd Kingdom Regatta, held at Al Jazayer Beach in Zallaq.
The event was organised by the Bahrain Maritime Sports Association (BMSA) as part of the kingdom’s National Day celebrations. It featured strong competition from individual sailors and crews representing eight countries, including the UK, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Tunisia, Oman, Norway, and hosts Bahrain.
Abdulla clinched first place in the Gulf category of the fleet race ahead of the UAE’s Adil Khalid, who took the Gulf silver medal. Abdullah Al Showmali made it two Bahrainis on the podium with the bronze medal.
In the overall category of the fleet race, Norway’s Markus Hagen bagged the gold medal, Abdulla added the silver, and Khalid came away with the bronze.
Meanwhile, in the match race, there was plenty of fierce competition. Abdulla was once again the gold-medallist in the Gulf category as the skipper for Bahrain, while Khalid this time took silver and Al Showmali bronze.
Hagen was the skipper of the overall winners, followed by Abdullah and Khalid.
BMSA president Shaikh Khalifa bin Abdullah Al Khalifa awarded the winners of both races.
Shaikh Khalifa congratulated the medallists in both categories, commending the strong competition and the impressive performances of all participants.
Shaikh Khalifa expressed gratitude to the competitors from Bahrain and abroad for their cooperation and contributions to the success of the event.
He emphasised that the annual championship reflects the association’s dedication to developing maritime sports and creating platforms for emerging talents to compete at regional and international levels.
