Cricket – Bahrain edged past Bangladesh to win the Bangladesh-Bahrain Friendship Cricket Cup 2024 at the Alba Club field in an exciting display of skill and determination.
The match was jointly organised by the Bangladesh Embassy and the Bahrain Cricket Federation (BCF) in commemoration of the year 2024 as it marks the golden jubilee of diplomatic ties between the countries and the Silver Jubilee of His Majesty King Hamad’s Accession to the Throne. It also celebrated the dual significance of December 16 to both nations as it is National Day of Bahrain as well as Victory Day of Bangladesh.
Bahrain Foreign Ministry’s Asian and Pacific Affairs Sector chief Muneera Al Doseri thanked the organisers for arranging the event “which reflects the enduring friendship between Bangladesh and Bahrain while also setting a positive tone for continued co-operation in the years to come”.
MP Mohamed Janahi said that it was a fantastic opportunity for people of different nationalities to come together and enjoy a shared love of sport. He also praised the embassy for its series of events and activities in celebration of the golden jubilee of diplomatic ties.
Several diplomats, representatives from ministries as well as government entities, and prominent businesspersons were also present to watch the match.
Chargé d’Affaires A K M Mohiuddin Kayes congratulated the teams for a very close game and said that the match was a fantastic display of sportsmanship and camaraderie.
BCF advisory board chairman Mohammad Mansoor said that the collaboration was a resounding success in celebrating strong ties between Bangladesh and Bahrain.
BCF president Sami Ali said the competitive but friendly spirits of both teams demonstrate how cricket has a unique ability to unite people across borders.
