PARA TAEKWONDO – IRAN bagged five gold medals to headline the winning national teams in the Bahrain 2024 Para Taekwondo Open, which was hosted by the kingdom over the weekend at Isa Sports City in Riffa.
Abolfazl Imani, Arab Amirhossein Alizadeh, Amir Mohammad Haghighatshenas, Ailar Jami, and Zahra Rahimi were all triumphant in their respective categories in the competition.
The event was organised by the Bahrain Paralympic Committee in cooperation with the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF).
It was the second of two major international Para taekwondo events held in the kingdom in less than a week. The other was the first World Para Taekwondo Poomsae Championships 2024, held last week in which Bahrain came away with six medals, including one gold.
Aside from Iran, also winning gold medals in the Bahrain 2024 Para Taekwondo Open were Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Thailand.
Kudrat Muhammadiev was triumphant for the Uzbeks, Alisher Garipollayev took first place for the Kazakhs, and Awipa Phuaphan won gold for the Thais.
Mariia Fisenko also came away with a gold medal representing the WTF.
