FOOTBALL – SITRA rose to the top of the table after posting a well-deserved 2-0 victory over East Riffa last night in week five of the 2024-25 Nasser Bin Hamad Bahrain Premier League.
Nigerian Imran Ilyas Bakur Adam and Abdulkarim Oumar Madou Diarra were both on target on either side of the break.
Adam fired in Sitra’s opening goal in the 32nd minute, and then Diarra sealed the result with their second nine minutes from the end of regular time.
With the result, Sitra claimed their league-best fourth win in as many games as they remained perfect with a maximum 12 points. Sitra leapfrogged Muharraq and former leaders and defending champions Al Khaldiya to solo first place.
They handed East Riffa their fifth straight defeat, as they remained the only team yet to score a point on the standings.
The fifth week of league action concludes on Sunday next week with Bahrain Club taking on Malkiya.
