A new federal decree law in the UAE looks set to increase the fines for jaywalking by 25 times the previous threshold of Dh400 (BD 40) with penalties of up to Dh5,000 to Dh10,000 (BD500 to BD1,000) to save lives and have safer roads, as reported by The National.
The legislation aims to target people illegally crossing roads with a speed limit of 80kph with the risk of jail if the jaywalker causes an accident.
The details of the legislation will not be finalised until March 2025.
