The UAE is set to have its first-ever Miss Universe representative Emilia Dobreva represent the country on the global stage.
Kosovo-born Emilia, crowned Miss Universe UAE in October, is a mother of three, married to an Emirati, and has lived in the UAE for more than a decade. She is fluent in Arabic and will don an abaya adorned with sand from the country to represent the UAE in the grand finale of Miss Universe in Mexico City.
Until 2023, the competition only allowed unmarried models aged 18-28. Emilia will be among the few competitors leading a change in these rules, along with other models, notably Miss Somalia, the competition's first hijab-wearing contestant.
