HORSERACING – KHALDIYA powered to a stunning victory yesterday in an international horserace in the UK competing for KHK Racing, owned by Supreme Council for Youth and Sport first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman, and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Headlining a field of six in the EBF Fillies’ Novice Stakes at Newcastle Racecourse, the two-year-old claimed the win for trainer Roger Varian, with jockey Jack Mitchell in the saddle.
Mitchell rode Khaldiya in touch with the leaders over the early stages of the six-furlong event. They took the lead one furlong out and did well to maintain their position, but then faced a challenge over the final furlong.
Mitchell and Khaldiya did just enough to eventually secure first place and win by a nose’s length ahead of runner-up Magic Basma, racing for owner Jaber Abdullah, trainer Kevin Ryan, and jockey Oisin McSweeney. Monetize came third for Crossfields Racing, Bryan Smart, and Andrew Breslin.
