“This day, marking the celebration of our nation’s freedom, is also a reflection on the progress we have made together over the years,” Mr Jacob said in a message.
“It is a moment of pride for every Indian, and it is a time to remember the sacrifices made by our forefathers.
“It is also a time to look forward, as reflected in the theme for this year’s Independence Day, ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India), which is Government of India’s vision of transforming our country into a developed nation by 2047, marking 100 years of Independence.
“The goal also has an important role for the global Indian diaspora.
“In Bahrain, the Indian community has been a cornerstone of the strong and enduring relationship between our two nations. The Indian community here is known for its hard work, dedication and commitment to the values that our nation stands for, creating the deep mutual respect that we see today between the people of India and Bahrain.
“Through political engagement, defence and higher education co-operation and expanding trade and economic relations, my embassy will continue to work towards taking India-Bahrain partnership to new heights.
“I also extend my best wishes for the continued progress, prosperity, and well-being of the friendly people of the Kingdom of Bahrain and thank the leadership, government and the people for the continued support to the embassy and Indian community in the country.”
