The term “Florida man” has become synonymous on the Internet for producing some of the weirdest and most unbelievable news stories ever. Now it seems a group of people are leaning fully into the stereotype of the Florida man, that they are hosting the first-ever Florida Man Games in September 2024 in Florida itself.
The organisers of the event describe the games as ‘the most insane athletic showdown on Earth’. According to the Florida Man Games website, the event will have multiple contests for participants to take part in, each modified to fit the stereotype of the Florida man.
The contests are: weaponised pool noodle mud duel, evading arrest obstacle course, category 5 cash grab, a catalytic converter, two bikes, and a handful of copper pipes: race against time, and sumo wrestling with an alcoholic twist. The tickets for the event cost between $45-$150, and they are already selling out fast.
To add a bit more authenticity to the whole proceeding, the organisers have even managed to rope in two former contests of the 1990s TV show American Gladiators to become referees for the event.
