THE kingdom’s oldest animal welfare centre, which has been staging several fundraisers over the past couple of months to save the shelter from shutting down, is not out of the woods yet and its hope for survival is in thrifting.
Over the years, the Bahrain Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BSPCA) – founded in 1979 by a small group of committed and passionate animal lovers before officially being registered by the Social Development Ministry as a humane, charitable, non-profit organisation – has mostly relied on sales from a thrift shop selling second-hand clothing .
