Prom entrances in the US have become a way for teenagers to leave their mark on their year in high school.
The event has seen youngsters arriving in flashy supercars and horse-drawn carriages, and even touching down on a helicopter.
Two teenagers from Washington, however, made quite the entrance when they rolled up to their school prom in a Second World War-era M3A1 Stuart tank.
Sherman Bynum and Sam Tetro rented out the army tank from a collector just for the day for $1,000, raising the money through TikTok and gofundme pages.
Bynum said he and Tetro had been planning for the event since February. After doing some research, he eventually contacted a company that rented out old army equipment for movies and TV shows. But they were asking for $20,000.
The duo then contacted a museum in Oregon for help in pulling off the stunt. The museum put them in contact with another guy who might be able to help them, and within 15 minutes of getting him on the phone, they had a deal worked out.
Steve Greenburg is a military enthusiast who has been collecting military memorabilia for years.
“I’ve been collecting this since high school, and I’m now 65,” Greenburg said. “If it wasn’t for tanks and the guys that drove them and worked on them and fought in them in World War II, we wouldn’t be standing here right now.”
After ironing out the details of the deal, Bynum and Tetro took to social media to raise money for their trip to the prom. Within three days, the duo had enough and were soon rumbling their way to the event in style!
