Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced the launch and called for applications for the 2023 AWS Space Accelerator, a hybrid technical, business, and mentorship opportunity open to space startups from around the globe.
According to the United Nations, fewer than 8,000 objects were launched in the first 60 years of human space exploration. Over the past five years, this number has risen to over 14,000, and the trend shows no signs of abating. A key aspect of the discussion about space sustainability is how to handle the rapid rise in global space activity over a long period of time.
The 2023 AWS Space Accelerator, delivered in collaboration with TechConnect, is seeking innovative startups with ideas for applying cloud-based solutions that enable the long-term sustainability of operations in space and empower humans to continue to benefit from space-based data and scientific discovery.
Unique missions
The virtual four-week programme, set for May 2023, will encourage global participation. Startups are invited to propose unique missions for a range of industry-wide applications that emphasise sustainability for space and sustainability from space. These may include ideas that contribute to the long-term viability of space operations as well as those that have a positive impact on sustainability and climate goals on Earth.
Selected startups will receive up to $100,000 in AWS promotional credits and guidance from space domain and technical subject matter experts with extensive AWS experience. The programme also provides opportunities for cooperation and networking with other participating companies, AWS customers, and AWS Partner Network (APN) members seeking cutting-edge technological solutions to their most demanding space challenges.-- TradeArabia News Service
