Al Raud Stable’s Mohammed Abdulhamid Al Hashemi won the Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa Endurance Cup after an exciting race at the Bahrain International Endurance Village yesterday.
The champion clocked 4 hours, 47 minutes and 23 seconds in the 120-kilometre event. He was followed by Victorious’ Isa Al Enzi (4.47.30) and Al Zaim Sultan Al Romaihi (4.54.40)
The event was held under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sport (SCYS) chairman and Bahrain Royal Equestrian and Endurance Federation (Breef) honorary president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Shaikh Nasser deputised Supreme Council for Environment deputy chairman and SCYS member Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa to crown the top three winners, in the presence of Breef president Shaikh Isa bin Abdulla Al Khalifa.
In the private stables category, Al Ruwae jockey Hamad Al Khateri won the race, clocking 5.14.49, followed by Ahmed Al Fateh rider Shaikh Saqr bin Khalid Al Khalifa (5.22.44) and Abdulla Al Nuaimi (5.28.35).
A total of 257 contenders representing various stables took part in the championship.
Shaikh Nasser congratulated the winners, hailing the development of endurance ride in Bahrain.
He stressed his keenness in supporting stables and jockeys by doubling the cash prizes which contributed to enhancing competitiveness.
