A Saudi Railway Company (SAR) train arrived in Ha’il, in northwestern Saudi Arabia, on a maiden trip from the capital Riyadh, Sabq newspaper reported.
The trip is part of the second phase of a plan to operate the national rail network, which has a total length of approximately 1,380 kilometres.
The SAR authorities have already inaugurated three other railway stations early this year in Riyadh, Al Mujama’a and Al Qasim.
SAR's operations manager Khalid Al Harbi unveiled plans to operate two more stations in Al Jouf and Al Qurayyat in the first half of 2018.
Fully-owned by the Public Investment Fund, SAR launched a 556-km-long cargo line in 2011 to transport minerals, phosphates and bauxite and other products to refining plants.
