The Bahrain International Badminton Festival 2015 will take centre stage at Shaikh Khalifa Sports City in Isa Town late this month and in November.
The Festival will be organised by Bahrain Badminton and Squash Federation under the patronage of the federation’s president, Shaikh Hussam bin Isa Al Khalifa.
The main attraction will be the back to back international tournaments, sanctioned by World Badminton Federation and Asian Badminton Confederation – The Victor-Rayan Sports Bahrain International Series from October 28 to November 1 and The Badminton International Challenge from November 3 to 7.
These events will offer top quality badminton action as they attract world class fields with players coming from across the world. A prize money of $20,000 is on offer.
The Victor-Rayan Sports Bahrain International Series will see over 120 players and The Badminton International Challenge just under 200 entrants, the largest ever field for a professional badminton tournament held in Bahrain. Over 30 countries will be represented across the two tournaments including Bahrain, India, Indonesia, The Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam, the USA, Russia, Uzbekistan, South Africa, Egypt, Turkey and Thailand.
The Festival will also provide a number of courses to boost the quality of officials and coaches, both locally and regionally. Asian Badminton Confederation courses will be run for local and regional umpires while ‘Shuttle Time’ (the brand name used by The World Badminton Federation for all of its youth initiatives) courses will be provided for Bahrain’s school and college coaches. There will also be a one-day Bahrain National Line Judges Clinic.
