US President Donald Trump is planning to announce the US’ recognition of a Palestinian state during his upcoming visit to the Middle East, a Gulf source revealed to The Media Line agency.
Saudi Arabia is preparing to host a summit bringing together the GCC leaders with the US president, who is expected to arrive in the region next week.
A Gulf diplomatic source, who declined to be named or disclose his position, told The Media Line, “President Donald Trump will issue a declaration regarding the State of Palestine and American recognition of it, and that there will be the establishment of a Palestinian state without the presence of Hamas.”
The source also added, “If an announcement of American recognition of the State of Palestine is made, it will be the most important declaration that will change the balance of power in the Middle East, and more countries will join the Abraham Accords.”
President Trump had previously stated that he intends to unveil what he described as a ‘major announcement’ ahead of his visit to the region, which is expected to include Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE.
Hebrew newspaper Israel Ha Yom reported that President Trump is close to announcing a comprehensive solution to end the war in the Gaza Strip.
The newspaper, citing Arab and American diplomatic sources, stated that the likelihood of President Trump making the announcement is ‘very high’, and it is expected to include a plan to end the war and begin reconstruction, with the US playing a central role.
