FOOTBALL – HESSA Al Isa posted a sensational hat-trick to spearhead Bahrain’s women’s futsal national team to a 3-2 victory over Morocco in a friendly match played at the Bahrain Football Association indoor court in Riffa.
The game was part of the Bahrainis’ preparations for their participation in the AFC Women’s Futsal Asian Cup 2025, set to take place in China this May.
The kingdom’s women’s futsal national team are set to play in Group C of the tournament’s preliminary round alongside two-time silver-medallists Japan, two-time bronze-medallists Thailand, and Indonesia.
Group A features hosts China, Uzbekistan, Chinese Taipei, and debutants Australia, while Group B is composed of two-time defending champions Iran, Vietnam, Hong Kong and the Philippines.
The Bahrainis earned their place in the continental showcase after finishing second in qualification Group A played in Nonthaburi, Thailand. The nationals won two of their four games, drew another, and lost one.
This year’s AFC Women’s Futsal Asian Cup is the third edition of the tournament. Bahrain also participated in the 2018 event but did not make it past the group stage. A championship was then scheduled to take place in 2020, but was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The top three finishers in China will qualify for the inaugural FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup 2025, to be hosted by the Philippines in November and December.
