FOOTBALL – BAHRAIN bowed out of title contention early this morning in the 2025 West Asian Football Federation (WAFF) Under-23 Championship, currently being played in Muscat, Oman.
The kingdom’s Olympic team suffered a 0-2 defeat to their counterparts from Oman in their semi-final clash.
The Bahrainis conceded both goals in the second half. Sultan Al Marzuq was first on target for the Omanis in the 53rd minute with a sliding, left-footed shot in the box. Turki Bait Rabia then sealed their win with a header from close range on the hour-mark.
With the loss, Bahrain will now play for the competition’s bronze medals. They will take on Syria, who lost to Jordan 0-1 in the other final four clash that ended early today morning.
That game will be held as part of the tournament’s concluding day schedule on Tuesday. Hosts Oman will face Jordan in the final, which will follow the match for third place between the Bahrainis and Syrians.
