HORSERACING – EVERGREEN and Cosmic Power claimed a sensational double for owners Al Adiyat Racing and trainer AM Smith in their respective Future Stars events last night at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) in Sakhir.
Isa Bin Salman Education Charitable Trust chairman, Labour Fund (Tamkeen) chairman, and REHC chairman Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa attended yesterday’s races.
Evergreen won the Future Stars Champions Leg One in last night’s fifth race on the eight-race card, while Cosmic Power triumphed in the Future Stars Sprint Leg One in the third race.
The two events headlined last night’s meeting, which was the 23rd of the kingdom’s national horseracing season. It was held under REHC’s brilliant floodlights as part of the club’s Ramadan Nights programme.
In the Future Stars Champions Leg One, held over 1,400 metres with BD4,000 in prize money, Evergreen took first place with Lee Newman in the saddle. The three-year-old filly crossed the finish line just a three-quarters length ahead of runner-up Dick Dastardly, competing for M and E Racing, Smith, and Marcialis Jaures. Istanbul finished third for Adiyat, Smith, and Ebrahim Nader, while Intelligence completed a top four for Adiyat and Smith, with Alejandro Brun as jockey.
In the Future Stars Sprint Leg One, Adiyat and Smith took the win once again, this time with Nader in the saddle. The three-year-old colt completed the 1,000m event with BD4,000 in winnings with a two-and-a-half length’s gap from runner-up Deham, who was racing for Victorious, Yousif Taher, and Hussain Asghar. Princess of Monaco was third for L&L Racing, Smith, and Newman; while Illuminate finished fourth for Victorious, Smith, and Brun.
Also last night, Al Saqlawy 1874 won the Al Wasmiya Cup in the evening’s first race for Victorious, Taher, and Hasan Ali.
Al Suwaity M1063 took second place for Al Mohamediya Racing, Ali Abdulmajeed, and Mohammed Jamil; Tuwaisan 1936 was third for Al Khaldiya, Yousif Alboainain, and Ali Isa; and Obeyan 1893 finished fourth for Al Wasmiya, Abdulla Kuwaiti, and Ahmed Mohamed.
Elsewhere on yesterday’s card, Hawaiian won in race two for Al Afoo Racing, Jaber Ramadhan, and Connor Beasley; Magic Memories won in race four for Rashed Racing, Alboainain, and Nader; Masarah triumphed in race six for AMS Racing, Ali Jan, and Abdulrahim Jasim; Gumais won in race seven for Mohamediya, Osama Hashim, and Asghar; and Double Jump took the eighth and final race for the Mohamediya-Hashim-Asghar triumvirate.
