WASHINGTON - The US condemned the attack on a United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) convoy in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, on Friday evening, which left multiple injuries.
"The United States condemns the violent attack on a UNIFIL convoy in Beirut, Lebanon, reportedly by a group of Hizbollah supporters," Spokesperson for the US Department of State Tammy Bruce said in a press statement late Friday.
"This attack resulted in multiple injuries on UN peacekeepers. We commend the swift response of the Lebanese Armed Forces to prevent further violence, and the Lebanese government's commitment to take all necessary measures to hold individuals accountable for their actions," she said.
"We extend our wishes for a swift recovery to all those affected," she added.
UNIFIL said on Friday that its convoy taking peacekeepers to Beirut airport was violently attacked, and a vehicle was set on fire and its outgoing Deputy Force Commander, who was
returning home after ending his mission, was injured.
