HORSERACING – ZEAL lifted the Al Sharif Group Cup yesterday in the richest race of meeting 18 in the 2024-25 season at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) in Sakhir.
Isa Bin Salman Education Charitable Trust board of trustees chairman, Labour Fund (Tamkeen) chairman, and REHC High Committee chairman Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa and other officials were in attendance.
Competing for owner Mohammed Khalid Abdulrahim and trainer Haider Ebrahim, jockey Ebrahim Nader rode Zeal to a dominant triumph in the 1,200m race for local horses, which carried a BD4,000 total prize.
The four-year-old gelding won with a margin of four lengths from runner-up Echo Through Time, competing for Al Adiyat Racing, AM Smith, and Marcialis Jaures. Luna came third for Al Mohamediya Racing, Ali Abdulmajeed, and Andrew Breslin, while Blues Queen took fourth and the last share of the winnings for M and E Racing, Smith, and Dhay Al Saadoon.
Two other races yesterday were for Al Sharif Group Cups. In the eighth and final event of the day, held over 1,200m for imported runners with a BD3,000 prize, Piz Nair took the win for Adiyat, Smith, and Lee Newman. Burdett finished second for Al Afoo Racing, Ali Jan, and Nader, while The Thin Blue Line came third for the Mohamediya-Albdulmajeed-Breslin triumvirate. Neptunian was fourth for Shaikh Isa bin Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa, Abdulla Kuwaiti and Abdulrahim Jasim.
Carnegie Hall won the Al Sharif Group Cup in the day’s third race, held over a 1,600m distance for imported horses, also with a BD3,000 total prize. Carnegie Hall triumphed for Al Afoo, Jaber Ramadhan and Royston Ffrench. The four-year-old was a length-and-a-quarter ahead at the finish of Inspirited, competing for RM Racing and Hareb Almalki, while ridden by Nader. Firth of Clyde came third for Al Hoora Racing, Kuwaiti, and Jasim, while Roosevelt’s Grit was fourth for Mohamed Ahmed Al Buainain, Yousif Alboainain and Hussain Asghar.
Also yesterday, two Crown Industries Cups were up for grabs.
In the day’s sixth race, covering a distance of 2,200m with BD3,000 in winnings, Knight of Honour won for owners Mohamediya and trainer Abdulmajeed, with jockey Asghar in the saddle. Elwasme was second for Mohamediya, Abdulmajeed and Hasan Al Saffar. Phoenix Passion was third for Mohamediya, Fawzi Nass and Breslin, while King of the Throne was fourth for Afoo, Ramadhan and Ffrench.
In race two, held over 1,400m with a BD2,000 total prize, Call To Court lifted the Crown Industries Cup for Adiyat, Smith, and Newman. Carolina Reaper was a distant second for Ma and Al Syndicate, Jaffar Radhi, and Adnan Jaffar, while The Ghost Ship was third for Victorious, Smith, and Milan Zatloukal; and Naahy fourth for Fata Abdulhaleem Majeed, Osama Hashim and Asghar.
In the first race of the day, held over 1,200m with BD1,500 in winnings, Musannan M908 won for the Mohamediya-Abdulmajeed-Asghar connections. Tuwaisan 1936 was a close second for Al Khaldiya, Alboainain and Ali Isa, while third was Kuheilan Weld Umm Zorayr 1838 for Victorious, Yousif Taher, and Hasan Asghar. Obeyan 1893 finished fourth for Al Wasmiya, Kuwaiti and Abbas Ebrahim.
