The UK has spent a whopping £1 million on the deportation of 47 Albanians convicted by British authorities who fled to Albania on a private plane.
The news was reported by The Telegraph, after the release of footage from the British Home Office showing the migrants boarding a plane escorted by security forces.
The cost for each deportee is reported to have been around £22,000, including the use of a plane chartered by a private airline, payment for three security escorts for each migrant, and covering the costs of transporting them to the courts and the airport. The video shows up to five security officers in yellow vests and body cameras accompanying each deportee.
The flight is part of the British government’s efforts to demonstrate a tough stance on illegal migration, a topic that has sparked much debate in Britain.
