FOOTBALL – BAHRAIN will be taking part in the Gulf Cup for Veteran Players 2025, set to be held in Kuwait from February 22 to 26.
The Bahrainis are set to play in Group B in the competition’s preliminary round. They are alongside Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen. Group A is composed of Kuwait, Qatar, the UAE, and Oman.
The pools were announced in a Press conference yesterday held by organisers in Kuwait City.
It was also revealed that the champions will pocket $200,000, with the runners-up taking home $150,000.
Financial awards of 50,000 Qatari riyals will be handed out to each of the winners of the Best Player, Top Scorer, and Best Goalkeeper awards.
Bahrain kick off their campaign against Saudi on opening night. They then take on Iraq the next day, and face off with Yemen on February 24.
At the end of the single round-robin, the top two from each group move on to the semi-finals, which are scheduled for February 25. The final is then set to take place the following night on the competition’s concluding day.
The tournament is for players aged 40 and above, according to regulations set by the Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation (AGCFF).
Matches will be played over 40 minutes with two 20-minute halves. The number of substitutions will be open, and VAR technology will not be used, according to the AGCFF.
The tournament aims to bring together legends of the game from across the region and revive memories of past tournaments in a competitive setting. It also hopes to highlight the rich football heritage of Gulf football and enhance the sporting culture and experience.
Teams are to be made up of 20 players.
