More than 135 former Bahrain students flew in from all over the world to walk down memory lane and reconnect with each other after more than two-and-a-half decades.
The two-day reunion of the Class of 99 started with a breakfast meet at a local Indian café in Juffair and included a nostalgic visit to their alma mater, Indian School Bahrain in Isa Town, retracing familiar routes and ended with a 90’s-themed party at a private resort in Budaiya.
“This extraordinary event was the result of the planning team’s dedication and passion,” said Kuwait-based Safiya Khan, an active member of the organising committee who has, in the past, driven numerous reunions in other countries.
“Every effort truly brought our shared friendship to life in the most extraordinary way.
“We had members spanning multiple countries and time zones, and our planning team and volunteers seamlessly brought every element of the event together beautifully.
“Ironically, we had a few challenges contacting and gathering our Bahraini batch-mates but in the end we found them and together we made memories that will be cherished for years to come,” she added.
Ahmad Jassim, who flew in from Atlanta, Georgia in the US found the experience ‘surreal’, like he were ‘stepping back in time’.
“For two days, we were 16 again. The reunion created unforgettable memories that will last a lifetime,” he said.
Veena D’Souza had a wonderful experience ‘reminiscing old times’ and though she had to take a long flight from Australia she said the trip was ‘totally worth it’.
“What a reunion with wonderful memories old and new, with friendships that have stood the test of time and distance!” she exclaimed.
“It was like stepping out of a time machine, a beautiful collision of past and present,” said Dr Asra Anjum, who flew in from Manchester in the UK.
“No matter how far we journey in life, some connections transcend the years and remain timeless,” she added.
