JIU-JITSU – Bahrain-based European champion Pedro Bisi de Jesus headlined the list of winners in the Bahrain Open Jiu-Jitsu Championship, held at Isa Sports City in Riffa and organised by the Bahrain Jiu-Jitsu Federation (BJJF).
Representing Reza’s Martial Arts Centre (RMAC), de Jesus claimed a sensational double, winning gold in both the adult men’s blue belt under-94kg and the youth men’s coloured over-69kg categories.
De Jesus’ two medals were among an impressive 21-medal haul by RMAC fighters in the event, which included 10 gold, seven silver, and four bronze to finish as the top-ranked team.
Elements JJ were second with 19 medals, including seven gold, seven silver, and five bronze; while UFC Bahrain were third with eight medals with two gold, four silver, and two bronze.
The top five squads were completed by Victory Jiu-Jitsu with five medals, including three gold, one silver, and one bronze; and UAE Police National Team with two gold medals.
General Sports Authority deputy chairman and Bahrain Combat Sports Council president Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa attended the event, along with BJJF president Redha Monfaradi and other officials.
De Jesus, who last month became the first-ever jiu-jitsu fighter coming out of the kingdom to win a gold medal at the European IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Championship, was joined on the podium in his adults’ competition by silver-medallist Ayaz Albalochi of UFC Bahrain. Mohammed Mandeel of Elements JJ won the bronze.
In his youth category triumph, de Jesus won his gold medal ahead of silver-medallist Daniel Pakhau of Elements JJ.
Meanwhile, in the adult men’s black belt under-85kg class, Vadzim Pakhau of Elements JJ took the gold medal.
Dante Cano of Elements then took gold in the adult men’s black belt under-94kg, where Bruno Moreira of House of Athletes won the silver medal. Rodrigo Andrade of UFC Bahrain took bronze.
In the adult men’s brown belt over-94kg category, RMAC’s Khaled Faraj won gold while Blake Mann of McCleary Jiu-Jitsu took the silver.
In the adult men’s brown belt under-85kg, Mohammed Al Najjar led an all-Elements JJ podium in taking the gold medal. Mahmood Al Najjar won the silver while Salman Khalfan captured the bronze.
In the adult men’s purple belt under-77kg, Abdulla Al Hashemi of UAE Police National Team took the gold ahead of Joey Doyle of UFC Bahrain. Feras Salman of Victory Jiu-Jitsu joined them on the podium.
Nicholas Martin-Jones bagged the gold medal in the adult men’s purple belt over-94kg ahead of fellow-Elements JJ fighter Mohammed Kabbani.
Abdulla Al Shaikh triumphed in the adult men’s blue belt under-62kg class to lead three Elements JJ fighters on the podium. Ahmed Al Banna and Sayed Adnan Kadhem joined him.
In the adult men’s blue belt under-69kg, Abdulrahman Almashaur and Salman Al Samahiji of Elements JJ were the gold and silver-medallists, respectively.
Hassan Osama of RMAC triumphed in the adult men’s blue belt under-77kg with gold. Jordan Silva of NSA Jiu-Jitsu won silver and Luqman Abdullah of Elements JJ took the bronze medal.
RMAC’s Mohammed Karimi and Nasser Al Showaikh were the top two in the adult men’s blue belt under-85kg division. Karimi won gold and Al Showaikh silver, while Abdulaziz Alkhaldi of Endure Jiu-Jitsu captured the bronze.
In the adult men’s blue belt over-94kg, RMAC’s Muhamed Elshamy took the gold medal while Salman Sabah, also of RMAC, took silver. Joseph Pizur of House of Athletes was the bronze-medallist.
Amongst the adult men’s white belt categories, Hasan Ali of Victory Jiu-Jitsu won in the under-62kg, Hassan Radhi, also of Victory Jiu-Jitsu, took gold in the under-69kg, Jawad Ali of Victory Jiu-Jitsu triumphed in the under-77kg, Mohammed Janahi of UFC Bahrain clinched gold in the under-85kg, Mohammed Abbas of RMAC triumphed in the under-94kg, and Saeed Alblooshi of UAE Police National Team won gold in the over-94kg.
In the adult women’s categories, Alexandraine Casem of UFC Bahrain was crowned champion of the white belt under-55kg class, with Jyoti Singh of UFC Bahrain taking the silver.
Alaa Salah of Gracie Bahrain won gold in the blue and purple belts under-65kg division, with RMAC’s Khadija Alqaidoom claiming the silver medal.
Amongst the youngsters, Aseel Al Mutawa of Elements JJ won the youth men’s white belt under-62kg gold medal, RMAC’s Omar Khonji took gold in the youth men’s white belt under-69kg, RMAC’s Ali Al Wazeer triumphed in the youth men’s white belt over-69kg, and Samuel Ambrosio, also of RMAC, emerged as the gold-medallist in the youth men’s coloured under-69kg class.
