A new proposal in Kuwait aims to push for stricter traffic regulations by restricting vehicle ownership to one automobile per expatriate, with specific guidelines to be announced by the Interior Ministry. This is part of the country's plan to reduce traffic congestion and ensure road safety.
The new proposal also suggests increasing all fines. The penalty for using a phone while driving is set to go from KD5 (BD6) to KD75 (BD92) and reckless driving may cost motorists KD150 (BD184) in the future, instead of KD30 (BD36). Speeding fines will jump to a range of KD70 (BD86) - KD150 (BD184).
The new draft law is under review and awaiting final approval from Kuwait's Amir Shaikh Meshal Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah. After approval, a three-month window will be given before implementing the rule.
