OLYMPICS – BAHRAIN made history at Paris 2024 with the kingdom’s best-ever haul at the Olympics of four medals.
These include the two gold medals of Akhmed Tazhudinov and Winfred Yavi, the silver of Salwa Eid Naser, and the bronze medal of Gor Minasyan.
His Majesty King Hamad’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs and Supreme Council for Youth and Sport (SCYS) chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa and SCYS first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman, and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa were in attendance yesterday as Tazhudinov received his gold medal during his men’s freestyle wrestling 97kg podium ceremony.
Other Team Bahrain officials were also on hand.
Shaikh Khalid was by Tazhudinov’s side as he entered the Champs-de-Mars Arena for his match, which was part of the concluding day’s programme of the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad.
Tazhudinov was then Team Bahrain’s flag-bearer during last night’s closing ceremony. Yavi also took part in the festivities in the parade of national teams, along with Chef de Mission Ahmed Abdulghaffar and other delegation members.
With the four medals, Team Bahrain ended their participation at the French capital in first place amongst Arab nations on the final medal tally.
