LES Ateliers Louis Moinet, a Swiss watchmaker, has set a new Guinness World Record for most meteorite inserts in a watch with its Cosmopolis timepiece. The watch features 12 different meteorites from the moon, Mars, asteroids, and a meteorite shower in Mexico. Each meteorite was authenticated by a certificate issued by meteorite hunters who are part of the Meteoritical Society.
The watch case is made of 18-carat rose gold and has a diameter of 40 millimetres. The meteorites were meticulously cut to ensure that they would fit together perfectly and that none would be lost during the cutting process. The integration of the meteorites into the watch was a “painstaking” but “careful process” according to Les Ateliers Louis Moinet SA. The record-breaking watch has a value of $246,901.
Jean-Marie Schaller, owner and creative director of Louis Moinet, said that the Cosmopolis watch is “more than a great watchmaking work” and that it is “a historic and scientific journey, a microcosm of the macrocosm.” He also said that achieving the Guinness World Record is “an exceptional recognition of our dedication to innovative watchmaking and pushing the boundaries of creativity.”
The Cosmopolis watch is a truly unique and remarkable piece of craftsmanship. It is a testament to the skill and artistry of Les Ateliers Louis Moinet, and it is sure to be a prized possession for any watch collector
