THE Bahrain Summer Festival continues this week with exciting workshops and an explosive science show, all the way from the UK.
With two shows each day, one at 5pm and the other at 7pm, Ministry of Science Live! dives deep into science and explores how it shapes the modern world we live in.
The Ministry of Science Group is one of the UK’s leading science communication specialists who hold shows at theatres, festivals, cruise ships and schools across the globe. Through the shows, they aim to prove that each and every one of us has the ability to change the world for the better.
The free show will continue until Saturday at the Cultural Hall in Manama.
l A ‘Sweet Flavours of Thailand’ workshop takes place this morning at the Bahrain National Museum, starting 10.30am.
Held in collaboration with the Royal Thai Embassy, the event will teach children aged seven and above how to prepare Mango Sticky Rice and Thai Coconut Jelly. It will be led by the Thai Ambassador’s personal chef.
l Later, at 11am, those aged seven to 12 will discover the magic of seedlings and unleash their culinary skills in the Grow Your Little Italian Garden workshop, held in collaboration with the Italian Embassy. They will learn how to cultivate an array of ingredients in their garden with care, sunlight, and a dash of fun, embracing authenticity and sustainability as they transform the treasures into delicious delicacies. The event takes place at the Art Centre in Manama.
l A collaborative workshop between parent and child will be held today from 5pm to 7pm at Bahrain Fort Site Museum. Participants will write a short story by going through random clippings with titles related to palm tree, and translate their writings into drawings. The event, ‘Inspired by The Place: The Palm Tree, the Stature and Homeland’, is open to children aged seven to 14 and their parents.
l A poetry workshop begins at the same time for 10 to 14-year-olds. Children can learn about the elements of Folk Poetry, get an overview of the most notable poets of the region, and specifically Bahrain. The workshop will be held for 15 to 18-year-olds on Sunday, from 5pm. A Gathering with Poetry will be held at Al Khalefeya Library in Muharraq.
Al Khalefiya Library will also host an Origami Palm Tree workshop tomorrow at 4pm. The event, for eight to 12-year-olds, begins with a storytelling session about the significance of the palm tree in Bahrain’s heritage, followed by a hands-on lesson on creating a palm tree model using the art of origami (paper folding).
l On Saturday, a Birds of Bahrain Workshop takes place at the Art Centre for those aged nine to 15. Participants will be introduced to skills and techniques in drawing and painting birds in this workshop by artist Shaima Murad from 10am to noon.
l On the same day, at 10.30am, a children’s book launch takes place at Bahrain National Museum Library. ‘The Shampoo of Wonderful Feelings’ by Nada Fardan aims to introduce children to the values of empathy, compassion and tenderness. The launch is open to children aged eight to 13.
l Children will learn the art of textile weaving by identifying the types of threads used and the methods of mixing them with wool and other material, in a workshop at the Art Centre on the same day.
The Weaving With a Wooden Loom workshop will go on from 4pm to 6pm and is open to those aged seven to 12.
l The House of Basket Weaving near Qal’at Al Bahrain will host a workshop – The Mother of a Million Palm Trees – from 5pm to 7pm on Saturday. Children between the ages of seven to 12 will learn about the parts of a palm tree and complete an integrated model of it. They will also learn the basics of saff craft.
l On Monday, The Young Museologist Workshop will introduce children aged seven to 13 to museology and the role of museums in preserving the cultural heritage of nations. They will learn about the work done by museum specialists such as excavating, recording, restoring and exhibiting collections through practical applications. It will be led in Arabic at the Bahrain National Museum, from 10am to noon.
l Children aged between nine and 15 will learn the Basics of Acrylic Painting in a workshop at the Art Centre on Monday. Led by Meraki Art Space, participants will be taught the basic techniques of drawing, colour mixing and painting with acrylics, from 4pm to 6pm.
l At 5pm, an acting workshop will be held at Bahrain National Theatre in collaboration with the US Embassy. Open to those aged eight to 15, the event will be conducted by a team of professionals from the Missoula Children’s Theatre.
