THE all-new 2023 Grand Wagoneer by Jeep was launched in Bahrain yesterday, marking the American automobile marquee’s boldest local steps into the full-size luxury SUV market.
The new model, dubbed ‘the most luxurious and technologically advanced SUV in the brand’s history’ is powered by the Hurricane I6 Twin Turbo engine, which was also debuted during the launch ceremony held at the Jeep showroom in Sitra.
“Grand Wagoneer is an American icon re-born and has been designed and built with the Middle East firmly in mind,” said Stellantis Middle East American brands managing director Rakesh Nair.
“Today, the SUV makes its debut in Bahrain and brings with it legendary capability, new levels of comfort, advanced technology and sophisticated design.
“This is the first time we will enter the large SUV segment in Bahrain with Jeep, and we have an incredible opportunity to redefine the category and expand our potential customer base.”
The Grand Wagoneer is now available for test driving, so that customers can experience the car’s renowned capability with three available 4x4 systems, exceptional driving dynamics, powerful performance, advanced technology, safety and a new level of comfort for up to eight passengers – all wrapped in a sophisticated and authentic new design.
“This is a completely new car segment for Jeep – and the Middle East is only the second market, after the US, where the Grand Wagoneer is being launched,” Stellantis (American and Italian) Brands Bahrain general manager Sam Yacoub told the GDN on the sidelines of the event.
During his presentation, Wagoneer Stellantis Dubai brand marketing head Mohamed Aladdin noted that the car had been tested in the Middle East for about half-a-million kilometres, and adapted specifically to the needs of the regional market.
This includes an upgraded air-conditioning system as well as protection against damage by sand, which are features not seen in its North American cousin.
The vehicle features the new advanced Uconnect 5 system and 75 inches of total digital display screen area. The 2023 Grand Wagoneer has also collaborated with distinguished audio brand, McIntosh, to bring an exclusive, high-fidelity audio system to a vehicle for the very first time.
Under the hood, autonomous vehicle capabilities, hand-free active driving assist, night vision with pedestrian and animal detection, intersection collision assist, drowsy driver detection, digital rearview mirror and 360-degree surround view camera are just some of the many attributes of the cutting-edge, large segment SUV.
The new vehicle also features the new three-litre Hurricane twin-turbo, inline, six-cylinder engine, that delivers better fuel economy and fewer emissions than larger engines while at the same time generating 493 horsepower and 670nM of torque.
“The Grand Wagoneer is a game-changer in the market and eventually, we will get the slightly smaller Wagoneer,” said Behbehani Brothers deputy executive director Hussain Shirazi.
“The Grand Wagoneer itself is very spacious and has a bold design both inside and outside – it is sure to turn heads.”
The 2023 Grand Wagoneer retails from a starting price of BD49,999 plus VAT.
