Every Indian worker who intends to work in Saudi Arabia must pass a Skill Verification test before being endorsed for their employment visas, according to a report by The Economic Times.
The move is in line with the kingdom's aim to enhance the quality of its professional workforce and reduce the number of unqualified employees.
The test, which is known as the Skill Verification Programme, was first launched in 2021 and in its initial phase, is compulsory for specific job categories with plans to eventually expand to all categories.
Under the programme, professional workers already employed in or who plan to seek employment in Saudi Arabia need to pass a written and practical exam.
The exam is already compulsory for 19 job categories including building electrician, plumber, welder, blacksmith, automotive electrician and pipe fitter.
