In a heartwarming gesture, Malayalam actor Mohanlal has offered to fund the education of the children of an Indian expat who died in Kerala floods.
Razak Akkiparambil, an employee of Our Own Indian School in Dubai, died while rescuing two children, including his son, from the floodwaters.
Razak,42, was in Kerala for his daughter's wedding.
Razak's brother-in-law Shareef told Khaleej Times that actor-director Major Ravi, head of Mohanlal's charity Viswasanthi, visited their house and handed over a cheque for Rs100,000 to clear the family's immediate debts. He said, "We got a compensation cheque of Rs100,000 in my sister Naseera's name from Major Ravi. The children were given Rs5,000 each as well".
Razak is survived by his wife, a daughter and two sons.
Shareef added, "The two boys had a phone conversation with Mohanlal who asked them what would help the family".
