Bahrain put in a commanding display of cricketing prowess in securing a resounding 63-run victory over Indonesia yesterday in the first T20I of the Bali Bash International T20I Series.
The match, held at the picturesque Udayana Cricket Ground in Bali, saw Bahrain post a formidable total of 156/6 in their 20 overs before dismantling Indonesia’s batting lineup for a mere 93 runs in 19.2 overs.
After being asked to bat first by Indonesia, Bahrain’s batters took charge from the outset. Prashant Kurup, the standout performer of the match, anchored the innings with a scintillating 54 off just 39 balls, including four boundaries and three sixes. His partnership with captain Ahmer Bin Nasir getting back to form, who contributed a brisk 36 off 27 deliveries, laid the foundation for Bahrain’s imposing total. Junaid Aziz provided the late flourish with an unbeaten 29 off 15 balls, propelling Bahrain to 156/6.
Indonesia’s bowlers struggled to contain the flow of runs, with only Kadek Gamantika (2/20) and Danilson Hawoe (2/23) managing to make significant inroads. Maxi Koda, despite his economical figures, went wicketless, conceding 46 runs in his four overs.
Chasing 157 for victory, Indonesia’s innings never gained momentum. Rizwan Butt struck early, removing both openers cheaply, while Abdul Majid and Sai Sarthak wreaked havoc in the middle order. Sarthak was particularly impressive, claiming four wickets for just 23 runs, including the crucial dismissal of Ahmad Ramdoni, who top-scored for Indonesia with a valiant 34 off 27 balls.
Indonesia’s batting lineup crumbled under pressure, with only Apriliandi Rahayu (12) offering some resistance towards the end. The hosts were eventually bowled out for 93 in 19.2 overs, handing Bahrain a comprehensive victory.
Kurup was deservedly named Player of the Match for his match-defining half-century, which set the tone for Bahrain’s dominance.
Bahrain’s emphatic win has set the stage for an exciting series, with Indonesia looking to bounce back in the upcoming matches. Cricket fans can expect more thrilling action as the Bali Bash International T20I Series continues.
