Bahrain lost to Sri Lanka 0-3 yesterday in their second Group A match-up of the ITF World Junior Tennis Competition Asia-Oceania Qualifiers Girls, currently being played at the Bahrain Tennis Federation (BTF) courts in Isa Town.
The event features 18 under-14 girls’ teams. It has been organised and is being run by the BTF, in co-operation with the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and Asian Tennis Federation.
In Bahrain’s loss to the Sri Lankans yesterday, Mariam Alabbasi fell 0-6, 0-6 to Hewa Pelandage Sahansa Damsiluni. Sophia Bader then lost to Norbet Annaya Joanie 1-6, 0-6, and then Mariam and Sophia bowed to Kahagalla Eliza Onadhi Gabriel and Norbet 1-6, 0-6.
It was the second successive defeat for the hosts, who had earlier lost to Singapore 0-3 in their opening divisional fixture.
In other head-to-heads yesterday, Lebanon defeated Jordan 3-0 in Group B, Turkmenistan outplayed Bangladesh 3-0 in Group C, Macau beat Oman 2-1 in Group D, Kyrgyzstan defeated Syria 3-0 in Group E, and Indonesia beat Iraq 3-0 in Group F.
In other matches on day one, Mongolia defeated Jordan 2-1, Pacific Oceania defeated Bangladesh 3-0 in Group C, the Maldives beat Macau 3-0 in Group D, the Philippines beat Syria 3-0 in Group E, and Guam beat Iraq 2-0 in Group F.
The ITF World Junior Tennis Competition Asia-Oceania Qualifiers Girls is the third international tournament for juniors being hosted by the kingdom over the past several weeks.
Bahrain also previously successfully staged a pair of J30 events on the ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors’ 2025 calendar, featuring under-18 players.
